It’s been awhile since I’ve had the time to actually post something. Things have been quite hectic at work, but what better way to get through those times than sharing a little inspiration. What company that has always provided great inspiration is Nike. Take a look at some recent commercial work.
Failure
Growing up with Michael Jordan, he was a huge influence on me and changed the way the world can see a brand. One of the greatest, and even he fails. Yet, it’s told as a story of inspiration.
Leave Nothing
I love the feeling of this video, Shawne Merriman and Steven Jackson are the obvious stars. I imagine this is what the whole NFL season feels like to them; just one play after another, at such a high level, and a blur come January.
The Beginning
LeBron James, probably the player that has come closest to replacing Michael Jordan. Yea, we could argue Kobe Bryant as well, but Kobe doesn’t inspire at quite the same level. Walking us through the story of LeBron, without him dunking – what a powerful statement showing that the best is yet to come.
Let Your Game Speak
Big Surprise, it’s Michael again. You watch this video and see the memory of Michael in every one of the children. The memory of him d-ing up, the memory of him chewing that gum, the memory of him celebrating. He just wasn’t a great basketball player, he was the greatest and the one everyone wanted to be.
Be Like Mike
Ok, so it’s not Nike but Gatorade. I can’t play a game of basketball without thinking of Jordan and this commercial. Who doesn’t want to be like Mike? The commercial provides inspiration and a challenge. I absolutely believe Gatorade is heading in the wrong direction with the whole rebranding as “G” after they’ve built so much equity in a name. Here Gatorade builds a brand and legend as well as giving him a catchy song and phrase.
And the follow-up commercial…where everyone wants to be Mike.
